SICILY. Akragas. Phintias, tyrant, 287-279 BC. AE (Bronze, 20 mm, 5.46 g, 6 h), circa 287-282. Laureate and beardless head of Zeus Hellanios to right. Rev. Two eagles standing left on a dead hare which lies upon a rock, the closer eagle has his wings closed and raises his head, the one in the back has his wings open and bends his head to the hare. CNS I 127. HGC 2, 159. SNG ANS 1130. A beautiful and unusually well preserved example with a lovely glossy patina. Very minor deposits, otherwise, good very fine.
